The American Music Abroad 2012-2013 season has come to a close. Over the course of the AMA 2012-2013 season, American Music Abroad ensembles gave scores of free performances and conducted dozens upon dozens of workshops for thousands of youth participants and music students around the globe.
American Music Abroad ensembles received positive press coverage in local papers ranging from the Detroit Free Press to the Daily Oklahoman to the Birmingham News, as well as interviews on morning television newscasts in local markets and interviews on local NPR stations. In the national press, the American Music Abroad program was highlighted on National Public Radio’s program The World for Della Mae’s tour to Pakistan. Meanwhile, America Music Abroad revived the historic partnership with Voice of America to promote AMA tours on various language services and music programs.
The AMA program’s Facebook page gained approximately 2,000 followers over the course of the season, while its Twitter handles gained 1,100 followers. Hundreds of photos were posted on both Facebook and Flickr sites for the AMA program. Videos on its YouTube page received over 21,000 views.
The Montgomery County (MD) legislature, the Cities of New York, San Francisco and Birmingham, and the State of Maryland, respectively, recognized American Music Abroad ensembles with proclamations honoring their cultural diplomacy work.
